Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to stay at the lodge to go horseback riding?
No, horseback riding is open to everyone.
Can horses be ridden double?
For safety reasons double riding is prohibited. Children must be 7 years old or older to ride. Children under the age of 7 can be lead around the stable area for no charge.
How many people can go on a horseback ride at one time?
Most of our rides consist of groups ranging from two to seven people. For larger parties, we can take up to 20 people on a horseback ride at one time. Groups larger than 20 people divide into two groups; with the great hiking trails and picnic areas close by, it is easy to plan activities while they wait.
Can I ride if I have never ridden a horse before?
You bet! We have excellent horses and even better guides. Our horseback rides are enjoyable for riders of all experience levels.
Can we run the horses?
No. Our rides follow beautiful mountain trails that wind through trees and rocks. The terrain is not suitable for running horses, and for the safety of the riders and our horses running is not allowed.
Are helmets available?
Yes, equestrian helmets are available free of charge. Participants 17 years old and younger are required to wear a helmet. Wearing a helmet is optional for adults.
Can we ride on our own without a guide?
Our special use permit and insurance require that each ride be accompanied by a guide.
Are reservations required?
No, but they are recommended. Rides are also given on a first-come first served basis. Lunch rides and specialty rides must be reserved at least one day in advance.
Is there a weight limit or other requirements for people riding horses?
Participants must weigh less than 280 pounds and be physically able to ride a horse on their own in order to participate in the rides.
How do I decide which ride is best for me?
All of the rides at Beaver Creek Lodge are beautiful. When deciding which ride is most suitable for you and your party, review the ride descriptions and consider the physical health and strength of the people going on the ride. If you have questions, give us a call, we would be happy to assist you.
